Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question for Dr. Jonathan and Dr. Laura? They’re happy to answer it! Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions our patients ask us every day. If you still have a question after reading through this page, feel free to give us a call! We’re always happy to take extra time to make sure you completely understand your oral health and dental care options.

What do you mean when you say your office is “comprehensive”?

Comprehensive dental care involves the use of multiple treatments and disciplines to make sure we can create a complete treatment plan for you and your smile. Our office is capable of caring for patients with various dental care needs, from the simple to the complex. We focus on preventing problems or stopping them early, keeping dental emergencies at bay and helping you maintain whole mouth health consistently.

Why do I need to see you every six months for a checkup?

Dental exams and cleanings every six months allow us to keep an eye out for the signs of problems that are developing before they can become serious and cause lasting damage. During your regular dental cleanings, we remove plaque and tartar that can go unchecked and cause gum disease and cavities. We’ll also make recommendations for your home care routine based on the current state of your oral health. In the end, a simple dental exam and cleaning every six months can prevent the need for complex care down the road.

Is professional teeth whitening safe?

Yes. Professional teeth whitening has been shown to be completely safe for your teeth and gums. Some patients report a mild increase in tooth sensitivity after teeth whitening, but this subsides, and the benefits of professional teeth whitening are many. There are no major health risks associated with teeth whitening.

What should I do in case of a dental emergency?

If you’re currently experiencing a dental emergency, check out our emergency dentistry page to learn more about how you can handle the situation and save your smile. Then, contact us. We provide same-day emergency dental care to protect the long-term oral health of our patients.

What are the benefits of digital x-rays?

Digital x-rays can help us find small areas of decay, deep cavities, infections in the jawbone, gum disease, abscesses, developmental problems, and TMJ dysfunction. But, digital X-rays aren’t just great because they offer diagnostic technology-- they also emit far less radiation than traditional radiographs, protecting your overall health.

What kind of dental services are available for my children?

Little smiles need unique care to thrive, and we’re happy to provide it! Your child’s care will include regular exams and cleanings that are paired with our gentle demeanor and encouragement so that we can help them feel comfortable in the dentist’s office. When their adult teeth begin to come in, we’ll be ready to provide dental sealants for extra cavity protection and fluoride treatments to help strengthen their teeth. We’ll also be sure to keep an eye on their oral development; orthodontic treatment is often easier to undergo when performed early on, so we’ll let you know right away if we think it could benefit your son or daughter.

Traditional braces are also available for both children and adults!

How can I tell which tooth replacement solution will fit me best?

In many cases, we’ll recommend dental implants, a revolutionary and relatively new tooth replacement technique that provides stability, beauty, and renewed health to previously marred smiles. However, many patients prefer the ease and affordability of partials and dentures, or the sturdiness of fixed bridges, which are also available options.

Whatever you prefer, our team will always perform a thorough examination and have a detailed conversation about your concerns and goals before making our recommendation, always taking your thoughts into account. We won’t rest until we’ve found the solution that best fits you!

I’m experiencing chronic dental pain and swelling. Am I going to lose one of my teeth?

Not necessarily! Even severely damaged or decayed teeth can often be saved with the help of root canal therapy, a procedure in which diseased tissue and pulp are removed from the inside of the tooth which is then sealed off from further infection. If you notice these signs, please don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment immediately; the sooner you can come in for treatment, the better!

I need restorative work, but I don’t want my smile to look unnatural! Are there other options?

Thankfully, our practice offers several restorative treatments with valuable cosmetic benefits, including dental implants and porcelain crowns. We want you to feel proud of your healthy smile, not embarrassed.
